City Psyching
Event June 24th 2006 11.00-12.00 and 13.00-14.00 at the British Library
The busy area around the British Library is a major intersection for multiple modes of transport, most people are, always on the way to some where else. Geo Psyching makes you stop and dawdle for a while to travel deeper into the detail of this area that some people call home.
Take another look and listen, explore this part of London through cryptic clues and hidden messages, use a gps system and your cunning to follow in the foot-steps and travel the neural pathways of Sommer’s Town’s hooded youth who used sight lines to satellites and samples from the British Library sound archive to weave a low- tech invisible architecture through the streets.

Geocaching is urban orienteering crossed with a treasure hunt, it takes you through urban streets and into a different world. and make your way to the starting point at the British Library.
visit Geocaching.com download the instructions and clues, print them out and bring them with you to the British Library. The trail begins with inputing the way points to a handheld gps (global positioning system) we have six to lend or bring your own.

Be Watched or be the Watcher

This is the inner city of London. Local to Euston station, lots of cars, flats and quite a few trees. Full of people from around the world.

At each point on this multi-cache you are being watched or you are watching. The trail is made up of a series of hidden sound caches, in the form of small black ‘sound pads’. Press the yellow button to hear the sounds recorded on them. The smaller red button must be held down (with the red light on) to record about ten seconds of sound. On this trail we want to you to listen to the sounds stored on the pads and then record your own sounds over them. Also, note the waypoints for the next point.

(first) Waypoint N51°31.742’ W00°07.564
Find the huge red C. Look for (the smaller) ‘high voltage’ location, notice something/someone watching you . When you find the sound pad listen to the previous geocacher’s recording and then press the red button, either allow it to record ambient sound or make your own.

(second) Waypoint
Sniff the coffee, then go into the forecourt and if you like pictures you will find the second clue. Listen to the previous geocacher’s recording then press the red button and either allow it to record ambient sound or make your own.

(third) Waypoint
Look on the other side of the logs. Along with the birds watch the creepy crawlies move. Listen and then make your own recording. Note only accessible from 10am - 4pm.

(fourth) Waypoint
Say ‘cheese’ at the doorway by the blue, who’s watching you? Look for the final sound cache here, (listen then record your own sounds) and sign the log book in a film container.
