Resistencia means resistance in Portuguese, and as Brazillians know, 'resistance is the secret of joy'
Residency program in my flat, in a very particular place near Brick Lane, East London. I live in a place that people are very unnerved by. To get here you step through an echoing tunel, it's a wild space where a bird of prey sometimes hovers there is a fox hole and a lot of deprivation and pollution. My home is light and bright and a good place to come for calm, conversation, good food and the sound of ducks and donkeys from the farm next door.
The Aim of the residency is to nurture and be nurtured.
Imogen Butler- Cole
During November 2009 Theatre director, Actress, capoeirista, Street Trainer and friend. During her residency Imogen divised and presented capoeira play Fora das correntes at Tara Arts Theatre in London. During our many long nights of writing and conversation topics of participatory performance and it's link with democracy were recurrent themes and we invoked and thanked ancestors through samba.

Marcia Derriak
December 2009 till February 2010 Documentary maker from Rio de Janieiro stayed with me. Maricia's current research is into feminism in the Baille Funk movement of Rio. During her stay we hosted conversations and experiments on the shaping of place through behaviour with focus on the channeling of earthpower sexuality by young women through dance. A screening and discussion on the topic are scheduled to take place at the Live Art Development Agency LADA

Marcia Derraik graduated in Cinema at Universidade Federal Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro in 1997. Since 1999 founded Antenna Productions directing and producing audiovisual content for TV, cinema and new media and technology

The residency began when Kate Rich began Houses of Benefit[1] a distributed hotel. It aims to redistribute cultural institutions' funding for accomodating visiting international artists, to strengthen informal personal networks between practitioners and give vistors a place to stay with a real sense of place.

And sometime when we come together we 'are' the university we want to be at/teach at. The art world we want to be part of, the commune, the company, the workshop we need and none of these things it's just the space we spin while we're washing up and fanning little flames.
