There are children on the underground, they do things adults don’t. On my journey from Goodge Street to London bridge this lunchtime. I got on the Northern line to find a boy doing really complicated spinning and jumping around the pole in the centre of the carriage kind of pole dancing without the ‘demeaning or liberating?' discourse, his friends were filming or photographing him. I spoke to them saying I was an artist, interested in young people’s creative uses of public space and asked if they planned to put the vid on youtube. They said they would. As they got off they seemed excited - as if the wand of celebrity had shimmered over them. Two boys were jumping up to touch the CCTV cameras as we walked down the endless corridor between northern and jubilee lines in waterloo. They were standing on the platform near to where I snuck off to a quiet corner to practice spin kicks, it wasn’t long before one of them was laughing out loud at me and filming me on his mobile, I stopped when I realised what was going on but then started again for the movie. I went up and talked to them and asked them if they would put the video on you tube, I gave them my myspace address. The boy said “I thought you were pregnant” ha “ that would have been really funny” they were really embarrassed talking to me and got away from me as fast as they could. I wonder if any of the video material will turn up on youtube. I felt when I first encountered it that it could be a public space, now I suspect that through facebook, youtube, flickr and myspace a neocon dynasty is shaping our behaviour and logging our online behaviour simultaneously. These are just the dynamics that street training aims to jump into the fray with in Real world public space. I now realise the need for 'online street training' 'web training' doesn’t have the same ring or the same meaning. Where/what are the creative subversions of facebook youtube and myspace? – savage messiah in her myspace page - using the little space provided in which to define oneself in terms of interests tv shows, heroes, star sign etc pasted a text that begins with a snog from a scar faced skinhead as group of people off their faces on mushrooms head off for a ramble around Hackney... now i need to find some more..

Ps I have just added the words facebook, myspace, youtube, snog and neocon to my ‘custom dictionary’ so that next time I use the spell check on my Microsoft word program it will recognise them - it won’t tell me they are miss spelt. Ahh the endless feedback loops of technology and mind shaping eachother (why isn’t eachother a recognised word in the micorsoft dictionary? And myself, ourselves, yourself are all recognised?) ok I’ve added eachother.
